I have made pompoms for as long as I can remember to finish off scarves and hats by using two circles of card with a hole in the centre, bit of a fiddle but worked ok.<br />
<br />
I have now discovered a quicker, easier way to make them by using a pompom maker. At first I wasn't too sure about it but after watching a short youtube video I was away.<br />
<br />
Really love the pompom garland that was my first effort and yes it had to be a Rainbow didn't it? Now making pompoms for a pastel version and maybe a monochrome one would be good too. Going to be a great stash buster.<br />
<br />
Have ordered more pompom makers in different sizes as I would like to make a mobile and wall hanging.<br />

We arrived at about 8-30am tables all put up so made a start by unpacking the stands and deciding where to put them, always takes a while as I keep changing my mind. Happyish at last.<br />
Now to start the real unpacking, all the goodies.<br />
How to display all my lovely things to do them justice? Never enough room I always take too much, just in case.<br />
Got some ideas for improvement next time as we will have the same spot.<br />
At last all done! Now for a quick sit down,take a breath, have a cuppa before the crowds arrive.<br />
We were certainly busy all day lots of people drifting in and out, not loads of sales but a positive day nonetheless I sold the most expensive thing on my table so thrilled with that. Chatted to lots of people making the day pass quickly, they were still coming through the door as we were packing up that hasn't happened for a long time so got a feeling that maybe at last things are picking up and the feel good factor is on a return visit fingers crossed.<br />
Here's to the next one!rainbowsnmorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12382278308998803489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2544838938569357939.post-13450694866799319722015-06-30T07:23:00.000-07:002015-06-30T09:58:58.498-07:00Craft Fairs <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

When I started selling at craft fairs they were quite successful and profitable for me but over a number of years they have become less and less viable barely covering my costs at many of them.<br />
So what has changed?<br />
1. More people are taking up crafts which means more competition this I don't mind it's a level playing field. I am happy that the quality of my work and materials used will stand out from the crowd.<br />
<br />
2. Big name shops have cottoned on to the trend for handmade and are filling the High St with supposedly handmade but probably imported from the other side of the world goods which are cheaper than I can produce.<br />
<br />
3. There are many more craft fairs than there were selling a variety of goods and sadly many also include sellers of cheap imported goods of lesser quality that someone,somewhere may or may not have handmade certainly not the seller but undercutting and totally devaluing the work of genuine crafters and artisans.<br />
<br />
In spite of all this I do still enjoy craft fairs meeting people face to face and chatting to them about my work. There are still some great Craft Fairs featuring only genuine handmade items to be found.<br />
One such fair is starting again in the Church Hall St.Agnes Cornwall Friday 3rd July 10am to 4pm. No craft is duplicated and everything has been made in Cornwall by the stallholder. I am happy to say that I will be there selling my lovely range of hand crocheted and hand knitted things all lovingly made by me.<br />
So why not come along and say hi. We'll all be pleased to welcome you.rainbowsnmorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12382278308998803489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2544838938569357939.post-40240878139378103392015-05-12T03:06:00.000-07:002015-05-13T01:42:40.475-07:00Corner to corner blanket<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I saw a photo and a post on Facebook from someone who was just finishing her C2C crocheted blanket. I was intrigued I love crochet but had no idea what a C2C blanket was. After some internet research I discovered that it simply meant corner to corner and that's exactly what you do. You start with 1 block of crochet and increase on every row until it is the size you want, decrease on every row until you are back to one and finally add a border, that's all there is to it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am always keen to try new things and here is my first attempt the photos show my progress stage by stage. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I made this first one using a free pattern from www.redheart.com in cream,coffee,minty green and yellow DK yarn using a 5mm hook. The finished blanket measures approx. 28" square. This pattern is easily adjusted to any size you choose.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am absolutely delighted with the results it's so easy why didn't I know about it before. I have finished a second one and started a third. You could say "I am now hooked on C2C"</div>

To herald the Spring and Summer I have made this lovely new design garland from a pattern that I purchased on Etsy from 4LilBeans<br />
<br />
It is shorter than quite a few that I make at about 52" so great for smaller spaces.<br />
<br />
It is made using Patons 100% cotton DK yarn which is machine washable in a warm 40deg medium wash, dry flat, do not tumble dry<br />
It has 4 large flowers in 2 shades of yellow and white and 3 smaller flowers in yellow and white it is hanging from green crocheted chain with green leaves in between each flower.<br />
Great for use indoors or out but don't leave it out in all weathers as cotton is a natural fibre and will eventually rot.<br />
Would be lovely to use at a wedding too.<br />
For sale at £13.00 + postage in my Folksy and Etsy shops.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mandala is a Sanskrit word that simply means circle many people believe that they represent the Universe but whatever you believe I think that they are very decorative items. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really enjoy making crocheted versions of Mandalas these are made using a variety of crochet stitches and you can use as many colours as you wish the brighter the better. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I usually make coasters or table mats measuring 4-8 inches. I would love to make something larger maybe a floor mat,we will see. I use a mercerised 100% cotton yarn which is machine washable and is obtainable in a great range of colours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mandalas are a really decorative item and can be used anywhere around your home and for specific occasions too Easter,Christmas maybe a wedding </div>

These colours are really vibrant and make a lovely bright accessory for any home. If it ever stops raining are also a great decoration when dining al fresco.<br />

The turquoise green and turquoise blue blends perfectly with the green and blue making a perfect transition between them.</div>

Blue comes next in the spectrum, followed by Indigo which to me is just more shades of darker blues.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So I choose to use turquoises for blue and sky, navy, french, powder etc.for Indigo.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Turquoise has many,many shades some can be described as turquoise green and some turquoise blue. So by using turquoise greens first followed by turquoise blues a natural progression between green and blue is made. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The shades of turquoise remind me so much of the sea around the coast of my home in Cornwall. On a sunny day so many spectacular shades can be seen and changes constantly I never tire of looking at it. I love walking on the beach searching for 'sea glass' in shades of green and turquoises.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The blanket at the moment measures about 42" so will probably measure about 60" when completed so will be the biggest I have made up to now.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Keep watching....................</div>

<strong><u>Green for go! At last!</u></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have been busy working on lots of lovely things and only work on my blanket in between projects as a fill in when I'm not sure what to do next, so, it's taken a while but the rounds of green are now completed. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It is a good time to have finished the green as we head into Spring with trees bursting into bud and fresh green shoots appearing in the gardens and hedgerows. (Well they are in Cornwall as we are fortunate not to have had any snow). Nature has so many beautiful shades of green it was hard to do it justice. I have managed to find yarns in an array of greens that blend and work well together.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The blanket now measures approx 81cm that's 32" in 'old money'. As the blanket gets bigger it takes longer to complete each round so my progress will get slower. Well that's my excuse anyway.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So keep watching Blue will follow eventually. Honest x</div>

<br />
I have just begun another of my crocheted rainbow granny square blankets and decided to write this blog as a record of its progress and the pictures that it conjures up in my mind as I progress.<br />
I use acrylic double knit yarn because it is hardwearing and washable and a 5.00mm hook.<br />
I aim to complete 8 rounds in each colour resulting in a blanket approximately 56" across. Each round is done in a different shade of the colour in use. A shade can be repeated but never be used consecutively. <br />
I love the rainbow, its colours blend perfectly whether they are pastel shades or the more vibrant ones that I am using in my blanket.<br />
First in the spectrum comes red followed by orange these are hot colours and make me think of the flickering flames of a fire on cold winter days, the flowing river of lava when a volcano erupts or the molten core of the earth. Red is for warning, love or danger. <br />
<br />
The blanket grows quickly in the beginning as each round is short but follow this blog to check on progress<br />
<br />
